Foraging in the mountains is a blessed but inherently risky activity. 

My name is Sarah, and I am a forager. My work takes me deep into the wild places, where I gather the wild and medicinal treasures you see featured on this site. But I am never truly alone out there. By my side are two remarkable working dogs, Teddy and Charlie, who are not just companions but essential partners in my craft.

Teddy, my boy, is my steadfast guardian. His presence is a constant source of reassurance as we navigate the rugged terrain of the Kootenay region. Teddy’s instincts are unparalleled; he is always alert, scanning our surroundings for any signs of danger. Whether it’s a bear in the distance or an unfamiliar sound, Teddy’s calm demeanor and protective nature allow me to focus on my work, knowing he has my back. At the end of the day, though, he transforms from a vigilant protector into a gentle, affectionate companion, reminding me of the balance between strength and tenderness.

Our Charlie girl is my energetic and intuitive foraging partner. Her sharp eyes and boundless curiosity make her an invaluable asset when I’m laser-focused on scouting and discovery. Charlie has an uncanny ability to spot things I might otherwise miss, and her enthusiasm for exploration is infectious. She thrives in the wild, weaving through the underbrush with a sense of purpose that mirrors my own. Together, we move through the landscape as a team, each of us attuned to the rhythms of nature.
