Whipped Rose Tallow Balm: DIY Recipe and Instructions

Whipped Rose Tallow Balm: A Luxurious, Healing Skincare Recipe

I made this for you!  It's in the Free Offerings Apothecary.

There’s something deeply satisfying about creating your own skincare, especially when it’s packed with nourishing, high-quality ingredients. This Whipped Rose Tallow Balm is a decadent treat for your skin, combining the restorative properties of grass-fed tallow, antioxidant-rich rosehip seed oil, and the calming essence of roses. It’s a recipe that not only pampers your skin but also connects you to the simplicity and purity of nature.

Why These Ingredients?

  • Grass-Fed Tallow: A powerhouse of vitamins A, D, E, and K, tallow mimics the natural oils in your skin, making it deeply moisturizing and healing. It’s especially beneficial for dry, irritated, or sensitive skin.

  • Rosehip Seed Oil: Packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidants, this oil helps fade scars, reduce fine lines, and promote skin regeneration. Always source it from a reputable supplier to ensure purity and potency.

  • Rose Petal Powder: Made from dried organic rose petals, this powder adds a soft pink hue and gentle exfoliation. Grinding your own petals is a joy—the vibrant color and delicate aroma are unforgettable.

  • Rose Absolute Oil: A luxurious essential oil that uplifts the spirit and soothes the skin, adding a final touch of tranquility to the balm.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup infused rose petal oil (see instructions below)

  • 1 cup grass-fed tallow

  • 3/4 cup food-grade beeswax (clean enough to eat, because your skin absorbs it!)

  • 3/4 cup shea butter

  • 10 tablespoons rosehip seed oil (high-quality, pure)

  • 4 tablespoons rose petal powder (see instructions below)

  • 15 drops rose absolute oil (adjust to preference)

Step 1: Infuse the Rose Petal Oil

  1. Fill a clean glass jar halfway with dried organic rose petals.

  2. Cover the petals with your choice of carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, or castor oil).

  3. Seal the jar and place it in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks. Shake gently every few days to encourage infusion.

  4. Strain the oil through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, squeezing out every last drop of fragrant oil.

Step 2: Make Rose Petal Powder

  1. Dry organic rose petals completely (air-dry or use a dehydrator).

  2. Grind the petals in a spice grinder or high-speed blender until you achieve a fine powder.

  3. Sift the powder to remove any large pieces. The result is a vibrant, aromatic powder that adds color and texture to your balm. (my 4-year-old and I did this together.  We were both in absolute awe at the vibrant pink-purple hue our rose petals made as we blended them to a fine powder.  Try it and prepare to be astounded!!)

Step 3: Melt the Ingredients

  1. In a double boiler, combine the infused rose petal oil, tallow, beeswax, and shea butter.

  2. Heat gently until fully melted, stirring occasionally.

  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 4: Blend and Customize

  1. Once the mixture has cooled slightly (but is still liquid), stir in the rosehip seed oil, rose petal powder, and rose absolute oil.

  2. Adjust the amount of rose petal powder for color and texture, and add more essential oil if desired for a stronger aroma.

Step 5: Whip and Cool

  1. Pour the mixture into a mixing bowl and let it cool until it begins to thicken (about 10-15 minutes).

  2. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip the balm until light and fluffy.

  3. Spoon the whipped balm into clean tins or jars, filling them about 3/4 full to allow for expansion.

Step 6: Set and Store

  1. Let the balm cool completely with the lids off for at least 24 hours. This ensures the perfect texture and consistency.

  2. Store in a cool, dry place. The balm will solidify slightly but remain soft and spreadable.

Why You’ll Love It

This Whipped Rose Tallow Balm is more than just skincare—it’s a ritual. The rich, velvety texture melts into your skin, delivering deep hydration and a sense of calm. The subtle rose aroma and soft pink hue make it feel like a luxurious treat, while the healing properties of tallow and rosehip seed oil work to repair and rejuvenate.

Make it for yourself, or share it as a thoughtful gift. Either way, this balm is a celebration of nature’s finest ingredients and the joy of creating something beautiful with your own hands.

Enjoy the process, and let your skin soak in the love. 🌹✨
