With the delicate essence of roses and the rich, moisturizing properties of tallow, this balm is perfect for hydrating and soothing your skin. Follow these steps to create your own rose-infused tallow aromatic balm at home.
Ingredients
-
1/2 cup organic grass-fed tallow
-
2 tablespoons organic rose petal oil (infusion time: 4-6 weeks)
-
1 tablespoon organic rosehip oil
-
1 tablespoon organic shea butter
-
2 tablespoons food-grade organic beeswax (pastilles or grated)
-
1 teaspoon organic rose petal powder (optional, for texture and color)
-
10-15 drops rose absolute essential oil (adjust to preference)
-
5-10 drops geranium essential oil (adjust to preference)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your Materials
-
Gather all your ingredients and ensure your workspace is clean.
-
Set up a double boiler: Fill a small pot with 1-2 inches of water and place a heat-safe glass or stainless steel bowl on top. Ensure the bowl fits snugly without touching the water.
-
Have your containers (tins or jars) ready for pouring the balm.
Step 2: Melt the Base Ingredients
-
Add the tallow, beeswax, shea butter, rose petal oil, and rosehip oil to the double boiler.
-
Heat gently over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until everything is fully melted and combined. Avoid overheating to preserve the integrity of the oils.
Step 3: Add the Rose Petal Powder (Optional)
-
Once the base ingredients are melted, sprinkle in the rose petal powder (if using).
-
Stir thoroughly to ensure the powder is evenly distributed. This will add a subtle texture and a hint of natural color to your balm.
Step 4: Remove from Heat and Add Essential Oils
-
Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly (about 1-2 minutes).
-
Add the rose absolute essential oil and geranium essential oil. Stir well to incorporate the oils evenly.
Step 5: Pour into Containers
-
Carefully pour the mixture into your prepared tins or jars.
-
Allow the balm to cool completely at room temperature. As it cools, it will solidify into a smooth, aromatic balm.
Step 6: Label and Store
-
Once the balm has fully set, label your containers with the name and date.
-
Store in a cool, dry place. The balm will keep for several months.
Tips for Success
-
Customize the Scent: Adjust the amount of rose absolute and geranium essential oils to suit your preference. You can also experiment with other complementary essential oils like lavender or chamomile.
-
Skin Test: Always perform a patch test before using any new skincare product to ensure you don’t have a reaction to the ingredients.
-
Gift Idea: Package your rose-infused tallow aromatic balm in pretty tins or jars for a thoughtful, handmade gift.
