A Journey to the Source: Our Annual Autumn Foraging Hiatus

A Journey to the Source: Our Annual Autumn Foraging Hiatus

Hello, friends of the forest,

There’s a certain shift that happens in the mountains this time of year. The sunlight slants through the cedars at a golden angle, the air carries a crisp, earthy scent, and the forest seems to hum with a quiet, abundant energy. For us at Kootenay Wildcrafting Co., this isn't just a change in the weather; it's a call to action.

It’s time for our most important journey of the year: our annual autumn foraging hiatus.

This pilgrimage into the heart of British Columbia's untamed wilderness is the very core of what we do. It’s how we ensure the medicines we share with you are gathered with the utmost respect, care, and sustainability. It’s a time for us to reconnect with the land, to listen to its rhythms, and to carefully harvest the potent botanicals that have reached their peak of autumnal power.

Where We're Headed & What We'll Be Doing

From October 6th to October 22nd, I will be off-grid, deep in the backcountry of this rugged land. This work is slow, intentional, and deeply reverent. It involves:

  • Mapping & Sustainable Harvesting: I never take more than a tiny fraction of what a patch offers, ensuring its health and vitality for generations to come.
  • Wildcrafting with Gratitude: Every harvest begins with a moment of gratitude and a promise to honor the gift the land is providing.
  • Scouting for the Future: I'll also be assessing the health of our patches and identifying new areas for future seasons, always with a mindset of guardianship, not ownership.

What This Means for Our Shop & Shipping

To give this vital work our full and undivided attention, our online shop will remain open but our shipping studio will be closed.

Here’s the important timeline for you:

  • Last Day to Order for Pre-Hiatus Shipping: All orders placed by 11:59 PM PST on Friday, October 3rd will be lovingly packed and shipped on our regular schedule,  before we depart.
  • Orders Placed During Our Hiatus (Oct 4 - Oct 20): Any orders placed during this period will be safe and sound in our system. We will process and ship them the week of October 23rd, once we have returned and unpacked our harvest.

We’ll Return with the Forest’s Gifts

This hiatus is essential. It’s how we ensure the quality, purity, and potency of the wild-harvested goods you trust for your family’s wellness. We are so grateful for your understanding and support, which allows us to step away from the computer and into the woods to do this meaningful work.

We’ll return rested, re-inspired, and replenished with the very best the autumn forest has to offer. Follow our journey on [Instagram/Facebook]—if we find a patch of service, we’ll share a glimpse of the breathtaking landscapes we’re working in.

Thank you for being part of our wildcrafting story.

With gratitude from the forest,

Sarah
